Jetlite (Mumbai) was established on September 20, 1991 and commenced operations on December 3, 1993 as Sahara Airlines with two Boeing 737-200s.
Sahara Airlines was rebranded as Air Sahara on October 2, 2000.
On April 12, 2007 Jet Airways (Mumbai) agreed to acquire the struggling carrier. Four days later Jet Airways announced Air Sahara would be renamed Jetlite to serve the lower end market in India. The official name change came on June 1, 2007.
Parent Jet Airways announced in January 2012 it will merge its no-frills brands JetLite and Jet Konnect under the two-class Jet Connect brand. The low-fare Jetlite brand will be retired.
Boeing 737-8Q8 VT-SJH (msn 30695) prepares to land at the Mumbai base. The airliner wears a 2008 light blue variation of the Jet Airways livery.
