  • In 1959 NJA acquired a DC-3, named "The Moanalua", from Hawaiian Airlines. The aircraft was the first DC-3 acquired by HAL in 1941. The new owners complained of the numerous fuselage patches until they realized the patches were covering bullet holes from the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Hawaii! Nevertheless NJA liked the HAL red and white livery and adopted the livery for their own fleet including the Convairs.
